BLAKE (Peter), Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
Après des études de dessinateur industriel et d'arts plastiques, Peter Blake obtient une bourse pour étudier les cultures populaires en Europe. Sa première exposition a lieu en 1962. En 1967, il réalise, avec sa conjointe Jann Haworth, la couverture de l’album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band des Beatles. Cette œuvre d’art est devenue célèbre et emblématique des années 60. Elle a renforcé le statut mythique des Beatles à tout jamais. Dans ses œuvres, Blake s'ingenie à récupèrer et mélanger les images stéréotypées issues de la culture populaire anglaise. Il est, avec Richard Hamilton, l'un des pères du Pop Art anglais.

With a Little Help from My Friends fut spécialement écrite pour Ringo Starr par John Lennon et Paul McCartney. Ringo y endosse le rôle de Billy Shears, membre de la fanfare imaginaire du Sgt. Pepper. La chanson dans l'ensemble parle d'amitié, et contrairement aux rumeurs de l'époque, il n'y a aucune référence à la drogue1. Au début, le chanteur est incertain et se demande si ses amis vont le quitter. Il dit se sentir mal lorsqu'il est seul sans personne, et se dit qu'il se sent mieux lorsque ses amis sont là et qu'ils lui remontent le moral.
